Delight for Dupree at Ramadan Open at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club

There was delight for Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club scratch team captain Mark Dupree as he romped home to win the 4th Centro Sharjah Ramadan Open with a score of 40 points, two clear of his nearest rival.

Dupree who has been improving over the last two months finally showed his best in what was ferociously warm and humid conditions out on the course, an impressive returning nine of 21 points with 6 pars enabled the 13 handicapped golfer to claim victory.

Finishing two points behind was new Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club member Andrew Morley, who was over the moon to pick up his first ever golf trophy, a score of 38 points enabled him to collect the winning prize for Division A. Even more impressive was that his score would have also been good enough to claim the best gross on the day.

The Division B winning score went to Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club Korean member K.J Lee who fired a level par 36, beating Gary Hibbert by virtue of a scorecard playoff. Lee who’s two nines couldn’t have been any different, managed to scrape together 13 points going out but put together an inspirational back nine which saw him return in 23, therefore wiping out any chances Hibbert had of winning on the count back ruling.

With eight ladies all teeing it up in the Centro Sharjah event, it proved to be a very competitive division, however Emirates Golf Federation member Satnam Kaur held her nerve to post a creditable 33 points to take the honor amongst the ladies, which was two clear of her nearest rival Claudette Dumoulin.

The best gross on the day went to plus one handicapped golfer Ricky Dominguez, who fired a score of 31 gross stableford points, although Dominguez felt disappointed his ability still managed to prove good enough to beat a barrage of good golfers all lined up behind him.

With the Centro Sharjah Ramadan Open going from strength to strength General Manager Daniel Matthew who was present to meet the prize winners commented on the impressive number of 56 golfers who were all eager to battle the weather conditions for the love of the game to take part in the ever popular event.
