David Lipsky aiming to wrap up Asian Tour Order of Merit at the Dubai Open

David Lipsky believes he stands a good chance of wrapping up the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit title when he competes in the inaugural DUBAi Open at The Els Club from December 18 to 21.

“My game is really good, good enough to win anywhere,” said the 26-year-old from Los Angeles, who currently leads the Order of Merit race with $682,610 in earnings, ahead of India’s Anirban Lahiri ($521,104) and Prom Meesawat of Thailand.
“I have a pretty good lead right now and I will be playing in Indonesia and Thailand before coming to Dubai. This season I have made almost all of my money from just two events,” said Lipsky, referring to his achievements in the Omega European Masters and The Championship at Laguna National.

The Korean-American earned $480,661 from his maiden European Tour win when he beat England’s Graeme Storm in the first hole of a play-off at the Omega European Masters in September
In May 2014, he finished in a tie for second by one stroke to Chile’s Felipe Aguilar in The Championship at Laguna National in Singapore, which was jointly sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour, winning $118,000 for his efforts.
“The DUBAi Open is the final event of the season on the Asian Tour and I will definitely be playing the tournament. It will be fun to play on a course designed by Ernie Els. Maybe I should ask him for some tips,” said Lipsky.
The four-time major winner and a three-time Omega Dubai Desert Classic champion has already indicated second shots will be crucial to going low on his course since the greens are quite tricky.

“The guys are working very hard to ensure the course is in great condition. I am sure the players will have fun in Dubai,” he added.
“The DUBAi Open is awesome for Dubai. I think it is a good place for the Asian Tour to be there,” said Lipsky.
“Being from the United States, definitely, getting to the PGA TOUR at some point is one of my goals,” Lipsky said. “I’ve been progressing every year with my game and developing everything, so hopefully the next couple years, I’ll be able to take that next step and play the PGA TOUR.”

Born in Los Angeles, California, Lipsky was introduced to golf by his parents when he was 10 years old. He played college golf at Northwestern University where he won the 2010 Big Ten individual championship before turning professional in 2011.
The Dubai Open is promoted and organised by golf in DUBAi, which also stages the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters and the MENA Golf Tour
