Daniel Hendry wins Emirates Golf Federation Junior UAE Golfer of the year

Daniel Hendry underlined his status as the number junior golfer in the UAE by winning the Emirates Golf Federation’s Junior Order of Merit for the second time in a row.

The Emirates Golf Club prodigy, who plays off an impressive plus three handicap,
shot a winning score of two-over-par gross 74 in the season-ending Emirates
Junior Open at the Faldo course to take his tally to 130 points, beating his
nearest challenger and fellow club golfer Philip Urasch (123.3 points) in a
close finish to the Oder of Merit race. Ronan Hall of Yas Links Abu Dhabi
finished a creditable third on 92 points.

Hendry, who now will be aiming to showcase his skills during the forthcoming
MENA Golf Tour, had seized the early initiative by winning the Abu Dhabi Golf
Junior Open, the first event on the Order of Merit in October last year, and
kept the momentum rolling with a series of solid performance to round off the
season with another victory at his home course.

Talented Urasch had his moments to upstage Hendry at the finishing line, but
failed to conjure a winning finish at the Emirates Open, settling for a tied
sixth on a gross 84. The plus handicapper, however, had every reason to feel
proud of his performances during the season which included a fine victory at the
Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Club Junior Open.

Ronan Hall won the net division of the Junior Order of Merit with tally of 91.5
points, beating Dubai Creek’s Dhruv Nair (79.5) to second place while Hendry
finished third with 72.5 points.

In Girls' Order of Merit (net) Katy Rutherford of Emirates Golf
Club, collected 107 points, needed to see off a strong challenge from Line
Dalile before taking the honours by just three points. Boushra Dalile finished
third with 101 points.

Saeed Albudoor, general manager of the Emirates Golf Federation, congratulated
the winners, saying their performances amply reflects on the growing standards
of the game in the country. “The competition among juniors is getting tougher by
the day and that augurs well for the game,” he said. I would like to thank all
the clubs for making the Order of Merit events a great success.”
