Comfortable Victories for Lindh and Fisher in National Day Open at Al Hamra Golf Club

Derek Fisher and Oscar Lindh take top prizes in the National Day Open with comfortable wins in the both the Net and Gross Division. As the UAE celebrated its 41st birthday the two clubs of Ras Al Khaimah combined together for the second year running to host a National Day Open two day event. The event saw golfers from all over the UAE ready for a great weekend of golf in the hidden gem emirate of RAK in a 36 Hole Individual Strokeplay Tournament which had prizes kindly sponsored by Pro Sports. Day one took place on Friday 30th November at Tower Links which saw an unusual sight in the form of rain hammer down for most of the morning. This obviously had an effect on the field as only 2 players managed under par net scores, the best coming from Cliff Macdonald who shot a great score of 67 to take a 4 shot lead into day two from Al Hamra member Dave Hoggins. Cliff also had the best Gross score on the day with 81 which meant he would be leading both the Gross and Net divisions, although there were 11 players within 5 shots of his Gross score.

Day two saw a very different story in terms of weather, as the blue skies and blazing sunshine were back to greet competitors at Al Hamra in an 8:00am shotgun start. The scoring for day two again was not particularly low although there was a slight improvement. The best net score on day two went to Derek Fisher with a fine score of 3 under par 69, three shots better than his nearest rival. Oscar Lindh had the best Gross score on day two with 78, one shot better than nearest rival Kasper Kritiansen who shot 79.
With rounds of 73 and 69 Derek Fisher would be crowned Net Champion with his winning total of 142 and a 3 shot winning margin from second place Dave Hoggins on 145. Back in third place after his awesome start on day one was Cliff Macdonald who put together rounds of 67 and 82 for a 36 Hole total of 149. In the Gross division it would be Oscar Lindh who was crowned champion after his two rounds of 85 and 78 to give a winning total of 163, two shots better than fellow Al Hamra member Dewald Lubbe who finished on 165. Finishing in third place just losing out on a count back with Dewald was Alistair Purves who also had a finishing total of 165.
