Carpetland Monthly Open at the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club
Once again the Carpetland Monthly Open hosted at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club proved to be a huge success with another full attendance of 104 players.
The pressure was on and competition was fierce as this month’s open was the last chance for players to qualify for the Grand Final which will be played on Friday 11th May.
In this penultimate event the windy conditions and morning rain would play a large role and the usual tricky pin positions would prove to be a tough ask for many of the competitors who were participating in this better ball stableford format. In the end it was Abdel Aziz Salem and Hisham Shammas who were victorious, seeing off the competition with a superb final score of 48 points. The highest points total of the season was helped along with a birdie net eagle by Salem on the par-5 13th hole and then another by partner Shammas on the 15th. Net birdies on the final two holes by Salem capped off an incredible back nine of 27 points.
Also making a plus forty score of on the day was Creek member team of Neil Taylor and Shreyans Khemka who totalled 42 points to secure second place. Normally this would have been good enough to win the event if it were not for the outstanding performance by the winning team.
Finishing on 41 points was the junior team of Fardeen Meeran and Jai Bhalla, who in reverse to last month managed to secure third spot on the count-back. This left the pair of H.S. Shin and H.Y. Lee who also scored 41 points out of the prizesbut still with a place in the Grand Final which was more than compensation.
As always the Group Marketing Director of Al Aqili Furnishing was on hand to present the prizes and say a few words; “It’s been wonderful to have yet another full field and I thank each and every one of you for coming along and supporting the series. Your participation today alone has helped us raise over AED 10,000 for The Friends of Cancer Patients Charity which really is fantastic. We look forward to seeing you all here for the Grand Final next month, and please remember if you did not qualify we would still very much appreciate your participation in the extra golf event we are running and the gala dinner.”
The Carpetland Grand Final will take place at Dubai Creek on Friday 11th May. If you have not qualified you can still play as there will be 50 spots available for players to qualify for next year’s Grand Final.
