Captains Day 2010 at Abu Dhabi Golf Club

Abu Dhabi Golf Club introduced the new Men’s and Ladies Captains for the forthcoming season

Abu Dhabi Golf Club introduced the new Men’s and Ladies Captains for the forthcoming season. They are Tony Martin and Shawn Lunday with Mike Larter and Pascale Michel taking the roles of Vice-Captains.

To mark the beginning of their captaincies, the club held the inaugural “Incoming Captains Vs Outgoing Captains” team matchplay tournament. Representing the Outgoing Captains Team were Jack McGuiness and Sue Henderson.

Unfortunately Sue Henderson was unable to attend the event due to her sudden move back to the UK. Therefore Jack McGuiness started the day with the traditional “putt-out” on the 18th green with Tony and Shawn then hitting their opening tee-shots to a round of applause from a crowd of club members gathered around the 1st tee to mark the start of their term as Club Captains.

The individual competition in the Men’s Division saw Mazen Ali with 41 points take 1st Place with a narrow victory from Klaus Tebrake with 40 points and Chris Morgan who took third position on 39 points with a back nine play-off victory.

The Ladies Division was won by Anne-Maria De Beer who scored 38 points. Anne-Maria finished 2 points ahead of Cathy Feron with 36 Points and Joan Mcguiness who scored 34 points to take 3rd position.

The team competition was won by the In-Coming Captains Team who scored an overall points total of 1226 to beat the Out-Going Captains Team who scored 1169. This marked the 5th victory for the In-Coming Captains Team who regain the Trophy after last years defeat.

The Captains Day Trophy was presented to Tony Martin and Shawn Lunday along with their new Club Captains Blazers at the prize presentation by outgoing captain Jack McGuiness.

On behalf of everyone at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, we would like to welcome Tony and Shawn to their new posts and would like to thank Jack and Sue for all their efforts as Club Captains during the past year.

A special thank you also to Millennium Hotels and Rivoli for their help and support to the Captains Day event.
