Buxmann and Skorobogatko Claim RAK Summer Open top Accolades
The annual RAK Summer Open saw Johan Buxmann and Dmitry Skorobogatko claim top honours in both of their respective divisions in possible the biggest RAK Summer Open ever.
The popular summer fixture saw 92 competitors kick start their summer season in a two day 36 Hole Individual Stroke Play over both the Ras Al Khaimah courses of Tower Links and Al Hamra.
With the summer weather truly upon us the competitors teed of both days in 8am shotguns with a hope of taking one of the fantastic prizes on offer aided by the fantastic support of the tournament. The Division A category saw golfers with handicap index’s of 15.5 or less battle it out in which Johan found himself finishing on 75 points after a fantastic 41 points at Tower Links on Day 1 followed by 34 points on Day 2 at Al Hamra. His one point lead after the first day proved to be vital as he finished with just a one point winning margin from runner-up Maxine Wellhoefer who finished on 74 points after matching Johan’s second round score of 34pts. Finishing third and taking the last of the Division A prizes was Tower Links regular Jehad Azzam who produced a fantastic second round score of 39 points which saw him propelled up the leader board to third.
Division B for the handicap index’s of 15.6 and above also saw a tightly fought contest in which Dmity would take the winner’s cheque after fantastic rounds of 40 and 37 for a 2 point winning margin. Second place eventually went to Michael Wolff who after a very lacklustre Tower Links round would then produce the round of the tournament carding 45 points at Al Hamra for a 75 point tournament total. His second round would prove to be vital as it saw him top trumps a card play-off with PJ Marriott who also carded 75 points.
PJ carded much more consistent rounds of 38 and 37 to see him claim the last of the main prizes. The continuing success of the two day Northern Emirate tournaments will hopefully repeat itself as the RAK Ramadan Open is scheduled to take place at the end of June.
