Bushnells win close contest on the sands of Sharjah Wanderers Golf Club
The 2012-13 Tech Access International Pairs UAE Presented by Cadillac series paid its second visit of the season to a sand course as the Sharjah Wanderers Golf Club members took to the dunes on Friday 8th March. Ladies were the key as mixed pairings filled the top-9 spots on the leaderboard but it was Josie Bushnell and her veteran husband Alan who took top honours in a closely fought contest. With Lady Captain, Maddie Fourie and Keith Smithard looked poised to make up for an unfortunate scorecard error that cost them victory a year earlier but two bogeys in their last three holes left them agonizingly close yet again and handed the Bushnells victory by a single point. The winners’ score of 42 was highlighted by no fewer than nine net birdies.
Taking third place a further point behind was Dave Lea & Rose Lua who scored 40 points thanks to an impressively steady card. Rose secured an impressive net eagle on the par-3 17th where Maddie Fourie collected the prize for nearest the pin. Jane Higson took the honours on the 8th hole.
Always in contention, Malcolm & Marion Tennant finished 4th this year but there was consolation when Marion won the lucky draw and a night at Yas Viceroy Abu Dhabi. Paul Mower &Dave Summerson won a pair of Crocs Golf Shoes by Hank Haney, presented by DG Golf.
Tech Access International Pairs UAE Presented by Cadillac is also sponsored by Rivoli, Mediclinic, Yas Viceroy Abu Dhabi and supported by Sun & Sand Sports, Worldwide Golf, Sport 360 and UAE Golf Online. In the June National Final, Alan & Josie Bushnell will join representatives from Arabian Ranches Golf Club, Abu Dhabi City Golf Club, Yas Links, Emirates Golf Club, The Address Montgomerie Dubai, Al Hamra Golf Club, Tower Links Golf Club, Al Ghazal Golf Club, Al Badia Golf Club, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Emirates Golf Federation Handicap Scheme and Els Club who have already qualified. Members at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club, Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club and Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club will play their qualifiers in March, April and May respectively.
