Breytenbach and Mills Al Ghazal Golf Club Champions

Al Ghazal Golf Club boasts two brand new Club Champions for the 2010/2011 season after the AGGC Club Championship at the weekend.

Lizette Breytenbach finally bested seven times defending Lady Champion Angela Scurr winning by one shot with a total of 163.  Angela who at one stage was 8 shots adrift of Lizette fought back towards the end of the second round but it was just not good enough to beat Lizette’s determination.  Third place went to Anina Bester on 172.  The ladies best nett winner was Emily Gordon with a total of 139; inform Emily scored a two under 70 in the first round and kept her momentum with a 3 under 69 to win by 9 shots from second placed Anette Rego on 148 [69 & 79].

Returning to the AGGC fold after many years was John Mills who proved that his sand game was supreme when he carded a first round gross one under par 70 against the 2009/10 defending Champion Rene Valencia’s 81.  Mills with an 8 shot cushion from nearest rival Rob Jennings [79], showed his metal by leading all the way to the winners post and taking the Men’s Club Champions trophy in style by 11 shots [147] from second placed Alex Charawani on 158 on count backs from third placed Rene Valencia [81 & 77] and fourth placed Mark Hayman [80 & 78].  Mills commented that when he was an AGGC member several years ago his golf was not as consistent and the then reigning Champion Jonathan Jeffries Jr. was too good to beat, it was very satisfying to finally win the coveted trophy.
