Big wins for Kim and Demesa in Air Arabia Matchplays at Sharjah Golf and Shooting
The quartet of Golden Kim and wife Normita Demesa (Pairs), George Liu (Gross) and Jacqui Stewart Net singles) wrote their names permanently into Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club folk-law by virtue of winning the respective Air Arabia Matchplay Championship divisions.
Kim (17) and Demesa (26) took 15 holes to dispatch of their opponents in the final, Martin Duff (0) and T. S. Char (17) after 4 consecutive pars, net birdies, from the 13th took the game from a tight 1 hole advantage to an unassailable 4&3 victory.
In the Gross category George Liu (2), arguably SGSC finest golfer, finally added a gross title to his CV. After a string of runner up and 3rd place finishes Liu in the Matchplay and Club Championships the Taiwanese finally made it to top spot on the podium beating one of SGSC’s most improved players over the past season Hassan YazdI (7) 3&2 in a nip and tuck final.
Jacqui Stewart made up for last year’s disappointment of losing in the final to go one better and beat arguably the pre-match favourite Normita Demesa by a a 2&1 margin.
Taking third spots to take trophies and complimentary Air Arabia tickets were Roy Holmes (6) (beating T. H. Cho (6)) and Christoph (11) and Birgit Danker (28).
At the presentation Director of Golf Martin Duff congratulated all the competitors and thanked sponsor Air Arabia for their support as well as furthered support as the airline confirmed their support of the coming seasons Championships, their 4th successive term.
