Beisenwenger bros win 3rd Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club Junior Development Programme

Well over 70 junior golfers recently took part in the final Grading & Tournament Days at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club on the weekend of Friday 10th & Saturday 11th May.

With all juniors extremely eager to try and improve on their current TPI Cap Grading they were put through 10 tests to include Putting, Iron Play, Woods, Chipping, Pitching, Golf Specific Fitness Testing and Golf Knowledge. Throughout the 2 hours of grading the juniors were all trying to reach individual specific goals set by the Golf Professionals.

A few of the juniors moving up a cap were German brothers Alex and Michael Beisenwenger who moved onto the Red ** and Red * respectively. Also Jakob Armstrong after three attempts managed to find his way up to a Blue * cap. Brian Gibbs became only the second Fundamental junior to walk away with a Stone *, following on from his friend Adam Karim who picked up this cap at the last Grading Day. A final mentioned must also be extended to Mannan Attlee who narrowly missed out on a Blue * even though he battled through the grading with a broken finger.
After the battle of the Grading Day all 70 juniors returned to take part in the final Tournament Day of the winter season. With 3 different tournaments based upon the child’s age/ability, it was 5 year old Kyle Chantler who managed to pick up the winning position in the youngsters Fundamentals competition.

The 5 hole Par 3 Short Course winners were Isaak Armstrong (7 Years & Under) and Juan Echeverri (8 Years & Older). Ethan Cloete in his first junior golf competition managed to scoop the Nearest The Pin award by knocking his ball 8 feet from the hole on the 95 yard 1st hole.
The elder and more experienced juniors were out in force in the evening for their tournament, with 4 different teeing grounds laid out the competition now hosted over 32 juniors managed from 6 years up to 16 years of age. It was once again a German one two, with the Beisenwenger boys picking up first and second position over the 4 holes played. Younger brother Michael claimed the household bragging rights as he piped his older brother by just one stroke by firing a gross 20. Third place went to South African golfer Saeed Kola, some massive improvements over the last 8 weeks have paid dividends as he walked away with his first ever junior golf trophy. Fourth place went to Aziz Chassebi, after managing to keep his cool he just about overcame Omar Karim on a scorecard count back after both young boys had shot a gross 25. Other notables on the evening were Jai Bo Kang and Ammar Master who picked up the Nearest The Pin and Longest Drives respectively.

A final big thank you must be passed onto the two sponsors of the JDP, both Petrofac and Spectrum have supported the programme which is continuing to go from strength to strength.
