Bain takes honours at Abu Dhabi Golf championship

Exciting finish to NBAD Men’s Open. The AGGC’s 37th NBAD Men’s Abu Dhabi Open Golf Championship, first round leader Professional Craig Smith on 67 leading the second round on 7 under after 27 holes faltered on the back 9 hole dropping 5 shots and opening the door to Bain who after 35 holes ad leveled to 3 under with Smith.

It came down to the 36th hole and the possibility of a play off between Smith and Bain, however a wayward drive put Smith under the trees and a second punched shot into the bunker on 18 proved too much and resulted in a bogey 5 against Bain’s steady par giving him the Championship by one shot.

Other honours went to John Mills [Arabian Ranches] best gross on 147 one shot from second placed Ahmed Al Musharrekh, from third Miki Mirza 149.  Fourth place went to Ahmed’s brother Abdulla on 150 from fifth Paul King 153 on count back from Jay Varkey – the top gross second to fifth placed payers hail from Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.
Top nett prizes went to Peter Shaw [DCGYC] 142, AGGC’s Alex Charawani 143 and Mike Massie [AGGC] 144.

Best Gross first and second day went to Jay Varkey [DCGYC] 77 and Ali Musba [Bahrain Golf Club] 72, Best Nett first and second days went to Jan P. Friedmann 73 and Mohamed Al Naomi [Bahrain Golf Club] 71.

Mark Pritchard deputizing on behalf of Michael Tomalin – Group Chief Executive of National Bank of Abu Dhabi presented the trophies and Pro’s Purse.
