Bahrain Juniors Win Places in Callaway Championships

Royal Golf Club junior members Dhari Al Borshaid and Sam Hobday have successfully secured places in the 2010 Callaway Junior World Championships to be held in San Diego USA.

The four-round tournament which begins on 12th July will see competitors from Europe, Asia and Latin America battle it out in various different age categories.

17-year old Bahraini Al Borshaid and 16-year old Hobday who is British are familiar with the pressures of competing at the highest club level having both won local and regional events previously.

“I have seen both youngsters perform to a very high standard this year and this international event will be their biggest test to date by far,” commented Phil Jones, the Royal Golf Club’s Director of Golf. “Sam and Dhari are currently working hard on perfecting their games and I wish them both the very best of luck.”

BD3500 is needed to cover the pairs’ expenses for the tournament. To help raise the funds the Royal Golf Club will host a fundraising event on Friday 4th June when Dhari and Sam will take on the other competitors in a betterball format. Profile: Dhari Al Borshaid
Dhari developed an interest in golf at the age of 13 and currently plays off a handicap of 11. He is a proficient player on both sand and grass courses and has achieved a series of great successes, most notably:

Dhari is a keen supporter of junior golf having been involved in many school activities through the Abdulrahman Kanoo International School. During the summer of 2009 he worked alongside the Royal Golf Club’s golf operations team in the academy and bag store and as a course ranger. In April 2009 Dhari represented the Bahrain National Junior Golf Team in various competitions nationally and abroad.

Profile: Sam Hobday
Sam started playing golf at the age of two and now plays off a handicap of 5. He has competed in a number of local and international events including:

Sam’s lowest score to date of 73 shows that he has the ability to play at the highest level. During his time at the former Riffa Golf Club, Sam was elected junior captain, team captain and a member of the St Christopher’s School and Riffa Golf Club golf teams. Like Dhari, Sam’s focus for 2010 is to compete in the World Golf Championships in San Diego USA.
