Bahrain Junior Golfers Take on Doha Counterparts

A combined team from the Royal Golf Club’s Junior Elite section and the Bahrain Golf Association traveled to Doha Golf Club in Qatar to compete in a three day tournament against a mixed team of Doha Golf Club members and Qatar National Junior players.

The home team dominated play in the first day’s individual strokeplay event as the Bahrain side struggled to adjust to the unfamiliar course. However Bahraini Mohammed Jelal put in a notable performance carding a net 73 to win a prize. The best round of the day came from one of the Qatar National team players, Abdulla Al Bishi, who shot an incredible 3 under par gross 69.

The youngsters competed in a Ryder Cup-style matchplay format on the second day of their visit with the Qatar team narrowly emerging the victors 5 – 4. Bahrain-based 11-year-old Deanna Ngo made three perfect pars on the last three holes to win her match 1 up on the last while Nooh Esbai, Abdulla Faris and Stewart Hutchinson also played great golf to win a valuable point each for the Bahrain team.

“This was the first time we have taken a group of our promising young juniors on a tour abroad,” explained Martin Robinson, the Royal Golf Club’s Head PGA Teaching Professional. “It was a great opportunity for both teams to compete against other youngsters in the region and further strengthens the relationship between the Royal Golf Club, Bahrain Golf Association and DOA, the Doha Oilmen’s Academy. I’m sure this is the first of many more similar events between the two sides in the future.”
