ASIA wins a slim margin over The World in FIGME, CLASH OF THE TITANS V
Filipino Golfers in the Middle East (FIGME) arranged a phalanx of 68 gallant gladiators with 14 teams from each side & a number of reserved gladiators which fortified the arena of the picturesque Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.
Swords, bows, arrow & irons collided at exactly 13:30 hrs. in a fierce battle amongst the dynamic & focused golfers. Matches 1 to 5 were dominated by Team ASIA, followed by a square on the 6th. 7th & 8th matches were taken by THE WORLD followed by a series of victories on 10th – 12th matches. The 9th match went to the Asians. 13th & 14th matches were taken by both teams as the four and half game ended with a victory for ASIA scoring 7.5 points against 6.5 points for THE WORLD in a better ball team event match play format.
Pairings were strategically prepared by the Team Captains headed by Rudy Laguna & Lorenz Rivera for Asia and Paul Welling & Chris Burkill for THE WORLD.
Highlight of the event was Mark Adams, (CEO Anglo Arabian Healthcare) ace on the 185 yards 8th hole winning a brand new Chevrolet Impala sponsored by AL GHANDI AUTO represented by David Devine.
Mark Adams mentioned “ I would like to thank and acknowledge Ramon Navea and his FIGME team in organizing fantastic events which is always a day to remember and full of fun and memories. It is a memorable day and I would like to thank AL GHANDI Auto for providing this opportunity to all players to compete in the Hole In One. Luck is on my side today.”
David Hadley, CEO Mediclinic sponsored the crystal trophies to all the winners in the individual event along with minor prizes for the 2nd & 3 runner ups.
FIGME provided the major prizes with one of those won by Nestor Labis playing off a 6 HCP with a score of 34 points. Nestor, the Over All Champion was the judged the fiercest gladiator of the day.
Dan Alforte (9) led the scoring for the Platinum division (0 – 12) with 32 points, followed by Arnel Pabitu (6) & Stuart McCormack (8) with 31 pts each the latter winning with better back 9.
H.E. Consul General Frank Cimafranca handed over the trophies and prizes for Gold division (13 – 18) with Eric Matabang (11) leading with 32 pts. Larry Mendoza (11) was 1st runner up (last 6) & 2nd runner up was Butch Davenport (11) scoring 30 pts. identical to Larry’s.
Mario Gutierrez, Silver Division Champion gained 32 points followed by Clarence Facun (20) & Tien Tai (18)with 24 points each.
Rene Sarmiento from Adidas presented the prizes to special events winners as follows:

Nearest the Pin – 16th: Alan Wilkinson
Longest Drive – 18th Chris Burkill
Raffle draw was held with items ranging from GPS navigators, hybrid woods, F&B vouchers, and others.
