Andrews win SAIF Zone UPC Title at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club

The father and son combination of Tony and Andy Andrews dominated the inaugural SAIF Zone Ultimate Pairs Golf Championship held at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club over the weekend.

 

The pair achieved a wire to wire victory after leading through day 1’s Texas Scramble (35) and Greensomes (35) formats.  The Sri Lankan’s, playing on their home course, led the field after a day 1 net total of 70 (-2) opened up a 3 shot lead over their nearest competitors Sunny Ramadas and Andew Say of the EGF (73).  On day 2 the eventual winners proved equally dominant as they returned solid net scores of 36 and 38 in the Betterball and Foursomes formats respectively for a net 74 round 2 total and an aggregate score of 144.

This was enough for a 4 shot victory over eventual runners up Haneef Rabbani (EGF) and Majid Madni (EGF) (148).   Third spot went to the male, female combination of Johathan Wall (EGF) and Michelle Walsh (EGF) who returned the joint lowest aggregate score on day 2 to move up the field and push Ramadas and Say into 4th spot.

Picking up the separate format prizes were Sid Elday (ADCGC)and Kevin Warren (EGF) for the Texas Scramble (34), Sunny Ramadas and Andrew Say in the Greensomes format (36).  Virgin pairing Roderick Thompson (EGF) and Mark Dupree (EGF) won the Betterball section (37) and SGSC’s own Ahmed Faisal and Mohammed Fidrus took arguably the toughest format in the Foursomes (37).
 
At the presentation Tony Andrews, the father from the victorious pairing, reaped praise upon the sponsors SAIF Zone as well as towards SGSC for both a truly unique and well run event and the outstanding presentation of the course.
