Andrade, Nakhnikian, Rice and Sweeney Take Glory in Captains Day at Emirates Golf Club

Doug Dowie hosted a Scottish themed Captains Day for 96 members with the top three teams separated by only 0.4 in a closely fought contest.

With Scottish pin flags, Navy shirts sporting the Scottish flag and haggis for supper it was a truly Scottish affair as Captain Doug brought some of his Leven roots to Emirates Golf Club.

He started the day with the annual yet nervous captains ‘drive in’, despite the pressure, he hit his opening tee shot 206 yards and the lucky prize winner was Paul Woutersen for guessing, the closest, 207 yards.

The quartet including Dubai Creek Club Captain Joseph Andrade posted the winning scramble score with a tally of 59.3. Andrade was admirably supported by Ara Nakhnikian, Edward Rice and Adam Sweeney. Chris Turlik, Joel Neale, Moshe Kohli and vice captain Mike Sim narrowly missed out on top position and despite an eagle three on their final hole, the 18th, fell 0.1 short on 59.4.

R.J Thompson, Stephen Jones, Mark Donovan and David Dubois signed for a 59.7 tally to claim third place finish.

Also in the prizes were Manoj Kapur for his nearest the pin exploits on hole 4, Ewan Cameron claimed closest the fairway flag on hole 2 and Steve Jones won the longest drive on the 12th.

Following the splendid Scottish Dinner Buffet there was a putting contest on the 18th green with David Watt holing a 60-yard putt to win the final prize of the day.
