Alhemoud Crowned 7th RAK Ladies Champion After Play-off at Al Hamra Golf Club

The 7th RAK Ladies Amateur Open took centre stage at Al Hamra Golf Club on Saturday 12th January. The event saw lady golfers from all over the UAE turn up in a bid to claim some vital EGF Order of Merit points along with the top prize of being crowned champion. With both Net and Gross prizes on offer there was plenty up for grabs for every competitor.

The Net Division turned out to be an extremely closely fought contest with only one shot separating the top three. Finishing Runner-up, after a card play-off with Annie Marriott, was Pat Mottershead who squeezed into second with the best back nine as both competitors carded 75. Winner of the Net Division by one shot was Yuki Pellerine who posted a score of 74 to pick up the Net Champions prize.

The Gross Division came down to an exciting finale as it appeared a play-off would take place between Nasha Sarkari and Julia Alhemoud as both players carded scores of 82. The 18th hole would take centre stage for the play-off which would continually get played until there was a winner declared. As both Nasha and Julia came down the first play-off hole they were side by side for two on the par 5 with the all important third shots to come. It was Nasha to hit into the green first which resulted in a pulled shot into the greenside bunker leaving Julia an open door. Julia then proceeded to play a sensible third into the heart of the green leaving all the pressure back on Nasha to get up and down. Nasha’s fourth from the bunker came up short which was followed by a missed par putt. Julia then rolled her putt up next to the hole for a tap in par 5 enough to beat Nasha and be crowned the 7th RAK Ladies Amateur Open Champion.
