Alban wins Dougherty Trophy at the Arabian Ranches Golf Club Dubai
The Dougherty trophy is a 36 hole Individual Stableford event played over two days, round one was held on Friday 28th September with 60 competitors taking part in the event founded by 2009/10 ARGC Lady Captain Fortuna Dougherty & Tony Dougherty. Round one was a fierce contest for position with Adrienne Fullerton taking the lead on 39 points; she was closely pursued by several players on 37 points and teed off in the final round on Saturday, 29th September in perfect playing conditions alongside John Hainey and Gleb Fenwick both on 37 points.
Each competitor used their handicap index as the Tournament handicap allowance which was taken at the appropriate stroke index holes. This allowance was used to calculate the net score in points, a net score of par for 2 points, net birdie 3 points, net eagle 4 points and a net bogey 1 point.
As the players completed their final round and the scores were posted on the board it was clear that it would be a tight affair and the eventual winner would have to do something special to emerge from the pack. Steve Bennett took the early Clubhouse lead on 74 points and was shortly overtaken by John Hainey on 75 points; Hainey looked the likely winner when round one leader Fullerton only managed 30 points for a total of 69.
Sheila Alban found herself 4 points behind the leaders when she started her final round, it was clear from the start that this was going to be a special day when she started with 10 points over her first four holes, Alban posted a final round score of 41 points with an outward half of 19 and inward half of 22 points to take the title with a final score of 77 points. Alban continued the trend of Lady Champions by making it three wins in a row for the Ladies.
