Al Ghazal Golf Club take back the Tee Trophy from Al Dhafra Golf Links
Last Friday at the Al Ghazal Golf Club the AGGC Captains and Members welcomed the Al Dhafra Golf Links [ADGL] members of for their annual interclub match at the weekend. The previous match last November went in favour of ADGL so the AGGC were out for revenge!
The event format started with a 4 ball better ball match on the Friday and finished with a Singles Match on the Saturday. After the first day the AGGC had developed a slim 3 point lead winning 6 ½ matches to 3 ½. A blind draw was made on Friday evening after the first round and on paper it didn’t look too good for the AGGC as ADGL had loaded their best players to play ‘double headers’ towards the end of the matches.
Saturdays play started in perfect conditions and the first groups to come in favoured the AGGC heavily giving the AGGC the advantage, but then the ADGL last best players started to win games. However, Captain Peter McManus’s plan worked and by the time the last groups finished it was all over and AGGC ended up winning 19 ½ games to 10 ½ to take the Tee Trophy back from Al Dhafra Golf Links. The event was a great success with all competitors having an enjoyable weekend.
