Al Ain pro Luke Plumb claimed the Al Hamra UAE PGA Medal title

Al Ain pro Luke Plumb claimed the Al Hamra PGA Medal title and with it his second tournament victory of the 2013/14 UAEPGA season.

With the testing Al Hamra course playing to its full length, and the wind picking up, low scores were going to be tough to find.  Plumb playing in the middle of the field produced a flawless front 9 holes before the wind really picked up, with birdies on the 5th and 8th holes, to compliment 7 solid pars.  On the testing back 9 with many holes playing into the wind, he held his nerve to mix a birdie on the short par 4 13th hole, with bogeys on the tough 10th and 17th holes.
Luke’s form has been varied this season, but he has shown that he loves being in contention for the win and thrives on the challenge under pressure: –

“My form this season has been mixed, but I have managed to produce two very satisfying performances to win at Al Hamra and the Els Club, and it seems that when I have a chance of victory I am comfortable in that situation.  I am looking forward to making a push to finish as high up the order of merit as possible, come the end of the season.  With two events to be played at my home club in Al Ain,  I feel there is plenty left in me for the rest of the season”

OOM contender Ryan Smith, produced another solid display of ball striking to, finish in 2nd place on level par, despite faltering somewhat on the back 9.  Third place was shared with Sharjahs Trevor Marshall, fresh from attending Asian Tour Q-school and Dubai Golf’s Dong Lee who both posted two over par rounds of 74.  Three players shared 5th on 75, namely Tom & Anthony Buchanan and DG Golf pro David Gray.

With 6 events left of the 2013/14 UAEPGA season, a familiar name is at the top of the order of merit.  Callum Nicoll defending his title has a comfortable lead in the standings from UAEPGA pro Steven Munro and Ryan Smith from the Montgomerie Dubai.  The next event takes place at Abu Dhabi Golf Club on Monday 3rd March.
