Abu Dhabi Golf Club opens the inaugural Troon Golf Junior Inter Club Series

Abu Dhabi Golf Club welcomed the region’s future golfing stars at the inaugural Troon Golf Junior Inter-Club Series, which teed off with a successful day of thrilling competition, fun and team spirit.

The very first event of the new series saw all five of the UAE’s Troon Golf facilities represented by teams of excited junior golfers ranging from as young as seven through to 16 years of age. Tee times were set up to feature a mix of younger and older players, with the latter taking on mentoring roles for the younger, less experienced golfers.
Led by future star Sean Cooper from the Grass Roots Golf Programme, The Track Meydan Golf was crowned as the winning team with a total score of 79 points ahead of The Address Montgomerie Dubai with 70 points. Capped by an emphatic birdie on the 27h hole, seven year old Sean shot an even par round to catapult his team to the top of the leader board.

Sean pipped Jennifer Buchanan from The Address Montgomerie Dubai to win the Individual Net prize, while Abu Dhabi Golf Club’s Amalia Arredondo claimed the Nearest to the Pin prize on the  par three 25th.
Danny Jakubowski, Group Director of Instruction at Abu Dhabi Golf Club and Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, said: “The purpose of this series is simple, it’s all about experience, competition and fun. I am immensely proud of the kids – the skills, sportsmanship and character that they displayed on the course makes it totally worthwhile.”
Rhys Beecher, Director of Instruction at The Address Montgomerie Dubai, added: “The series serves as a reminder of the responsibility that all UAE golf clubs have in growing the game of golf. It was fantastic to see the course lined with so many proud parents, who all made the time to show support for such an important event.”
The five teams were followed around the course by a flurry of team managers, supporters, club officials, cheering parents and siblings.

Danny added: “The feedback from the parents has been overwhelming. They love being able to watch their kids play, and really appreciate the fact that we are providing them with an opportunity to play on Championship courses and world class facilities. Most of them plan on following the rest of the events on the series too.”
The Troon Golf Junior Inter-Club Series swings over to Dubai next month for the second round, taking place on 24 May at The Els Club Dubai. For more information please contact Danny Jakubowski on djakubowski@troongolf.com or Rhys Beecher on rbeecher@emaar.ae.
