Abdulla Al Karam Triumphs in Mashreq Medal Championship at the Emirates Golf Club

Abdulla Al Karam recorded the best net score of the day in the third event of the ‘The Mashreq Medal Championship in Association with BMW’.

The Emirati, perhaps inspired by Masters weekend, signed for a fantastic score of 5-under par, net 67, to win the Mashreq trophy for best net of the day and his respective handicap division B (handicap 11-20). The 14-handicapper produced one of his best ever rounds over the famous Majlis course to clinch his first Medal tournament at Emirates Golf Club. Starting in the morning shotgun he produced an opening nine of 3-over par including birdies at the 3rd and 7th holes.  A consistent back nine resulted in the 5-under par tally, 3 strokes clear of the 85-stong field.
It was a day of 2-under par totals of 70 with the remaining 7 prize winners all firing the same score. Peter Pavy claimed runners-up prize in Division B with Lalu Mahtani in third. Nishith Patel continued his fine form by clinching Divison C following a card count back.

Ross Hopwood and Paul Byrne both featured strongly in Division A having helped the scratch team progress to this year’s final last week against the Arabian Ranches. Hopwood recorded a gross 70 to earn best gross of the day; his net 70 also granted him 3rd place in Division A (handicap 0-10). Jignesh Sangani, a consistent performer in monthly medals, won division A with Paul Byrne in second.

Mashreq Bank is the title sponsor for the 2013 Monthly Medals Series that will be held across both Emirates Golf Club and Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club. BMW, long standing supporter of the Monthly Medals at both clubs is continuing its association with this prestigious series. BMW continued their splendid support of the event with a hole in one prize on the 15th hole. Unfortunately there was no lucky winner of the BMW 316i this month.

Over a 12 month period there will be a total of 22 monthly medals across the two Dubai Golf managed clubs. During the months of July and August there will also be joint medals where by Dubai Creek members compete against Emirates members and vice versa. Both clubs will run separate order-of-merits and the top 36 players in both order-of-merits will win a place in the grand final. Jignesh Sangani is leading the Emirates Golf Club Order of Merit following three events with a tally of 208 points, with Nigel Thompson second.
