A strong field for the UAE National Day event

The UAE National Day golf tournament, featuring a full 100-player field, will have a festive flavour to it when it gets under way at the Yas Links Abu Dhabi on Thursday, December 1, with a 12 noon shot gun start.

Sponsored by the National Marine Dredging Company for the four year in a row, the tournament is organised by the Emirates Golf Federation as part of the 40th National Day celebrations in the UAE.

The annual event, which is open to all UAE nationals and residents amateurs holding a valid UAE handicap, will follow the team betterball stableford. Last year, the foursome comprising Burhan Mohamed, Huzaifa Mohamed, Abizher Mohamed and S. Srinivasan won the event with an impressive team score of 102 points, beating the team of Paul Mercer, Anne Brett Mercer, James Carrigy, Maria Carrigy by a good nine points.

“We are really delighted with the overwhelming response to the tournament. Like in the previous years, the tournament has been fully subscribed and we can expect some great golf befitting the occasion,” said Saeed Albudoor, general manager of the Emirates Golf Federation.

“It’s great to see players from differently nationalities living in the UAE sign up in big number which will add to the festive atmosphere.”

Albudoor also thanked the sponsors — National Marine Dredging Company — for their continued support to the event. “Without their backing it wouldn’t have been possible to put together an event of this size and stature,” he said, adding: “We hope our association with them will continue in years to come.”

Attractive trophies will be presented to the winners in different categories after the tournament.
