A look back and forward in UAE Golf

A memorable Desert Swing in UAE Golf

A memorable time in UAE Golf: Looking back over the past couple of months, it certainly has been another memorable Desert Swing here in the UAE and GCC. If you managed to either watch, visit or be involved, what were your thoughts?

For me, the Classic was by far the best event for the quality of golf, which is becoming a normal occurrence. The last day simply had everything with Alvaro Quiros winning with a tremendous last round. The opening Abu Dhabi Tournament was not as exciting because Kaymer blew everyone away on the National Course with no other challenger stepping up, he was just awesome.

We also had new installments of the 2 established world class pro am’s – The Saadiyat Beach Classic and the Emirates Invitational, which were both held in Abu Dhabi. I am sure these 2 events will get bigger and bigger drawing in more crowds and celebs promoting the region further.

It was a pleasure for me to see Tiger in action for the first time in Dubai. Yes, I was a Tiger viewing newbie and I chose the day he did not play that well to go and follow him around for a few holes, but it was still a pleasure.

Moving forward, the UAE Golf season is here s in it’s prime. The weather is absolutely perfect for playing Golf at around 25 degrees, with a slight wind only on some days.

This year I did have a resolution of actually playing some Golf!
Yes believe it or not, I maintain a Golf website and do not get a chance to play, which is criminal in some people’s eyes.
Those of you in a similar positions I can hear your sympathy and understanding. Those of you in jobs not in Golf I can hear “well poor old you!”
Seriously, I need to dust off the clubs and get myself on the course very soon, It has been too long and sometimes everyday life takes over and your hobbies become not so automatic. That must be changed in the next few weeks and I will let you know how things go along.

I am looking forward to next year’s Golfing installments already in the region and to see what will happen! The first event later this year the Race to Dubai returns in December, which is a great event to come and watch. This is the last Dubai installment of the 3 year proposed deal. I wonder where it will go next? If the event leaves Dubai, maybe The Race to Abu Dhabi… only time will tell.
