A great day for all the family at the Sharjah Senior Invitational Pro-Am

The hotly contested Sharjah Senior Invitational Pro-Am presented by Shurooq took place yesterday at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club

The hotly contested Sharjah Senior Invitational Pro-Am presented by Shurooq took place yesterday to Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club to mark the announcement of a new European Senior Tour event coming to the emirate from 2017-2019.

The Sharjah Senior Golf Masters presented by Shurooq will see some of the game’s most enduring stars competing in what will be the first Tour event ever to be hosted in Sharjah and the first European Senior Tour event in the Middle East since 2006.

Following a bustling press conference announcing the three-year initiative a field of lucky amateurs were joined by European Senior Tour stars Des Smyth, Ronan Rafferty, Paul Broadhurst and Malcolm Mackenzie, who alternated between each group on the course, for a great day of fun and golf.

Taking first place with an impressive score of 26 under par 11 were the team of Jacqui Stewart, Han Ettengruber, Manabile Shogole and Christoph Hager while in second place on 22 under par 122 were Gurbax Singh, Stathis I Stathis, Maurizio La Noce and Walid Al Attar. The team of Jalal Abbassi, Yousef Al Ali, Satnam Kaur and Mohamed Shafiq also shot 22 under par but lost out on the runner up spot on a card countback.

Longest Drives prizes were claimed by Christopher Hager and Martin McGuigan while the Nearest the Pin awards went to David Stevenson and Vivian Verma.

“The European Senior Tour is known as ‘the friendly Tour’ and that has been proven today,” said Martin Duff, Director of Golf, Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club. “The guys are so personable and nothing has been too much trouble for them. They spent time chatting with all of the competitors, signing autographs, giving a few tips – and that really is a good example of what the European Senior Tour is all about and what people can expect when they come to the Sharjah Senior Golf Masters next year.”

The inaugural 54-hole Sharjah Senior Golf Masters presented by Shurooq, which is sanctioned by the Emirates Golf Federation (and supported by Sharjah Sports Council and the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority), will take place at the from Thursday March 16 to Saturday March 18 2017, forming part of the European Senior Tour Order of Merit with a sizeable prize fund of US$450,000 on offer.
