2012 Jumeirah Golf Estates Mens Matchplay Final results

The unique format of Matchplay is in many eyes the essence of golf that creates many highs and lows during around and in some case letting the actions of your opponent dictate your choice of shot. These thoughts were certainly proven during the 2012 JGE matchplay final but also evident during the preliminary rounds of this year’s championship.

Battling through a field that contained over 100 participants, Inderpal Singh and Eric Verret met on the first tee of the Fire course to concluded this highly sort after title. The caliber of golf being played during the final round certainly showed as both men playing off single figure handicaps which in turn, neither men gave or received any shots.

Evidence of this evenly matched round was shown when Inderpal could only ever pull away to a one hole lead. Standing on the 18th tee, Inderpal yet again held the slimmest of margins of being one up with one hole to play. The ever consistent Eric managed to extend the game with a final hole win and level the match, extending the round into a sudden death playoff.

On the 19th hole, both Eric and Inderpal favored the left hand side of the fairway with Eric having a slight advantage over his component.  Steadying his nerves and proving that persistence prevails, Eric rolled in his final putt on the 1st playoff hole green to finally stretch ahead of Inderpal and become the 2012 Jumeirah Golf Estates Mens Matchplay Champion.

Congratulations to both finalist Eric and Inderpal, a final match played in great spirit.
