TDIC Hosts charity breakfast for UAE Charities ahead of Saadiyat Beach classic

Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), the master developer of tourism, cultural, and residential destinations in Abu Dhabi, as part of the 2011 Saadiyat Beach Classic, today held a breakfast at the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club for children from two very worthy UAE charities – the Emirates Autism Centre and Abilities Centre for special needs.

The children enjoyed a fun work shop and a one on one mini-golf session with the tournament host and legendary Grand Slam winner Gary Player.  

Speaking on the local efforts to support the beneficiary charities Gary Player said: “Events like this are great for raising awareness of the support that is out there for children with disabilities. We are working closely with the charities to continue the fundraising efforts of TDIC and its partners, and we hope to see more organisations and individuals showing support to these great causes.”

Sheikha Mahra Al Qassimi, Senior Communications Manager at TDIC further added: “TDIC is committed to supporting the community and we arrange events such as the Saadiyat Beach Classic to bring everyone together. The golfing event tomorrow, followed by the gala dinner and auction, will raise funds that will go a long way to make a difference in some very deserving children’s lives.”

Gary Player has been actively involved with charity work for children, having supported TDIC raise over AED 1 million in the inaugural Saadiyat Beach Classic last year, and through his own charity, The Player Foundation, which has helped impoverished children around the world since 1983.

Saadiyat Beach Classic is an annual charity Pro-Am (Professional-Amateur) golf tournament, hosted by Gary Player and presented by ADCB.  Now in its second year, the Pro-Am tournament takes place at the stunning Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, the first beachfront golf course in the Arabian Gulf and raises money for children’s charities, this year including Emirates Autism Centre, the Ability Center for Special Needs, and The Player Foundation.
